Description
A traditional Chinese martial arts school led by Shifu James Waters, who trained at the Shaolin Temple, teaching from a private studio near Cadle Mill, Penllergaer. Adult classes (14+) cover Northern Shaolin forms and weapons, chin na, sticky hands and San Da free fighting, and a Wednesday-evening class teaches Yang and Chen tai chi with qi gong. There are separate Shaolin classes for children aged 5 to 13.

Before you visit
Adult Shaolin classes run Tuesdays and Thursdays at 6:30pm and Saturdays at 11am (1 hour 45 minutes). The academy asks visitors to use its Google Maps link rather than entering the postal address into a satnav.

Prices & membership
Adult Shaolin classes are £12.50 each on “Pay As You Train”, plus a £10 monthly licence and insurance fee; monthly packages start at £55 for four classes. Tai chi and qi gong is £10 a class or £30 for a block of four. Children’s classes are £40 a month after a free trial.
